Blank insert medals are for when participant names aren’t finalized until race day — the factory ships medals with a recessed plate for local engraving. The trade-off: you’re managing two vendors.   • Special characters missing. Confirm your factory’s laser software supports ü, ñ, ø before sending 200 international names.
  • Logo format wrong. A JPEG in a Word document isn’t production-ready. Vector or 300+ DPI PNG at actual engraving size.

Where Engraving Fits in the Production Workflow

The sequence: Design → Mold making → Die-casting (zinc alloy at 385°C through an 88-ton press) → Deburring → Polishing → Surface plating → Color filling → Laser engraving → Assembly → QC → Packaging.

Engraving happens after plating and color because the laser needs a finished surface. Engrave first, plate second, and the engraving fills with plating and disappears. That late position has a consequence: if a data error is caught at the engraving stage, medals can’t be reworked — plating and color are irreversible.
